Provocation
An entertaining crime thriller from Australia
I have seen mention that Geoff Davis has a unique style. Having read several other works by well known Australian crime writers, I would have to agree. He can write about serious crime and still manage to capture the self-deprecating Australian sense of humour to a T. This book is very easy to read, often very funny, and solidly steeped in good police procedure.
Writing about a fictional, remote, small town police station gives Mr.Davis a certain licence to take liberties and give his hero an opportunity to often go rogue. Afterall no-one can check his facts. Many of us would have experienced the type of characters he portrays in his book; hopefully not many have had first hand experience of country lockups.
I found the book very entertaining. It is highly plausible, well structured and reflects painstaking research. I found quite a few editing slips, which didn't deter from the book's message, but would be well to correct.
A refreshing novel for lovers of Australian crime fiction.

The Black Mist
I had trouble putting this down. I loved the writing style and the quirky characters. I did not see that ending coming! If you like trying to guess who the bad guy is mixed with a bit of blood and black comedy you’ll love this book. I’m ready for the sequel!"

The Black Mist
"One of the joys of an Aussie novel is the dialogue. The author strikes the right notes page after page. Thankfully though, that’s just one aspect that is absolutely nailed down. Characters leap off the page and the story wrong foots you as any proper crime fiction novel should."

"Every so often, it’s nice to be reminded why I love crime fiction as a genre. The Black Mist does just that, and then some. I loved this from the first word to the last." - Verified Amazon Purchase
